Here are the five most recent top seeds to have won the tournament. The two-part stepladder finals of the 2023 U.S. Open will air live on FS1 February 4 and on FOX February 5.

Chris Via defeated Jakob Butturff in 2021. Ryan Ciminelli ended Dom Barrett's climb up the stepladder in 2015. Mika Koivuniemi's infamous missed 10-pin helped top seed Norm Duke win in 2011. Chris Barnes defeated Patrick Allen in 2005 and Pete Weber beat Brian Voss in 2004.

Announcers are a players kryptonite. “he’s a good spare shooter” then he misses.
He mentioned that his immediate reaction was basically “I’m being Punk’d, right? That doesn’t actually count, right? He gets another chance, right?” and didn’t believe it until they announced him as the champion.
